Most of the area grew up after the Second World War: brick ramblers, split-levels and colonials from the 1950s and 1960s, along with some older riverfront houses. Plenty of these homes were built all-electric or converted to heat pumps over the years, and many are on their second or third set of equipment.
Additions and finished basements are everywhere, often added without anyone rethinking the ductwork. Split-levels in particular end up with one level too warm and another too cool. Sizing a replacement off the old unit’s nameplate is how those problems get repeated.
Common jobs in Mount Vernon
- Heat pump repair and replacement
- Dual-fuel conversions (heat pump with a gas furnace backup)
- Balancing split-level homes
- Duct repair in crawlspaces and attics
- Furnace replacements in 1960s ramblers
Mount Vernon questions
Asked in Mount Vernon.
My address says Alexandria. Do I need a City of Alexandria permit?
Not if you live in Mount Vernon, Fort Hunt, Groveton or Hybla Valley. Those neighborhoods are in Fairfax County even with an Alexandria mailing address, so the permit for a system replacement comes from Fairfax County. We pull it as part of the job.
Is a heat pump a good fit for a 1950s or 1960s Mount Vernon rambler?
Often, yes. Northern Virginia’s winters are well within what modern heat pumps handle, and many homes here already have one. The things to check are the ductwork, the insulation and whether you want gas backup for the coldest nights. We look at all three before recommending equipment.
How fast can you get to Fort Hunt or Groveton?
We’re based in the Mount Vernon area, so the drive is short. Scheduling still depends on the day’s calls; most service requests in our area are scheduled within 24 hours, and urgent no-heat or no-cooling calls are prioritized.
This business and their personnel who I interacted with for my HVAC system replacement really lived up to their company’s name: Integrity. They were Roberto, Isaac, Kristhiam, Oscar and Arnardo— all responsive, knowledgeable and very professional. They go out of their way to provide excellent customer service. Now I have a brand new HVAC system that’s up and running, hopefully for a very long time. Thanks, Integrity!
Isaac and his partner were awesome. They came on time. Were polite and courteous. Explained each step.they were taking to.fix the problem. They explained with integrity. They were my second opinion to a large reputable company who said that they couldn't fix my AC and immediately wanted to sell me a whole HVAC system. No sales job with Isaac. Just suggestions without any nudging. Integrity Duct and HVAC Services is my go to company. I tried the other company because Integrity was booked and was hot. In the end, we decided to deal with the heat the old fashioned way, fans, until Integrity came. They were worth the wait.
Great service and competitive pricing. I had a A/C component fail and Integrity was able to come out that evening to take a look. The blower motor had gone bad. They gave me some options including a more cost efficient one given the age of my system. Would definitely call them again for a new install when the time comes. UPDATE 7/2026: My 15 year old unit finally bit the dust and rather than spend more money replacing other components, I went for a new install. Integrity cam out the same day, gave me a very competitive quote, and were able to install 3 days later. Thanks again for the great service and saving me from the heat!
